Strategy: Dragon NaturallySpeaking used like a mouse

"I use the command 'mouse grid' feature on Dragon NaturallySpeaking when working in Moodle. The grid splits the screen into nine numbered sections rather like a telephone dial pad. You can then decide which of the numbers covers the place where you would normally try to click on with the mouse. You say the number and that numbered section of the grid splits into nine again and so on until you have zoomed in to the item you need to select. Then you say 'click' and the item is selected. You can get quite quick in the end and you almost guess which numbers to say before the grid has appeared."
"If you just use commands you may find Dragon sends you to the wrong part of the screen as they tend to be linked to keyboard shortcuts. However, using the mouse grid allows you to get anywhere you need remember a multitude of commands."

"I need to be able to access all aspects of Moodle and had concerns that keyboard only access was not always available so I wanted to depend on Dragon NaturallySpeaking."

Nuance offer many one page guides for their Dragon NaturalllySpeaking speech recognition software - the Mouse grid and voice commands guide ends with a tip: Instead of "Drag," you can also say "Control Drag" and "Shift Drag" to drag while holding down the CTRL or SHIFT key.
