Ben CSummary of course taken

I'm currently in my final year of a masters in Electronic Engineering at Southampton.which has involved a wide range of activities including taking exams, writing dissertations and reports. I have even produced a poster which was on my research project. This was in preparation for a mock conference after the exams. I prefer design projects compared to exams - I enjoyed my dissertation because it was related to real engineering rather than the academic side of the course. I enjoyed building a prototype and testing it - which could eventually turn into a product!

Description of strategies used.

I like to use OneNote to jot down any small notes, like web addresses and pictures and anything useful for a project. It brilliant for small amounts of information - Word is better for long documents but it is a srap book and with the time stamp you can collect everything for research in one place.

When working on the computer I would advise anyone to get a wide good quality screen that rotates so that if you can turn it to portrait and this makes it much easier to read .PDF files. I have a very high resolution so it is essentially like having two monitors. I will have the document I am writing on the left and something like an internet browser on the right with my research. It saves so much time and is cheaper than having two monitors which take up too much space.

I find it helpful to synchronise my calendar and contacts with my phone but in the past I have used an HP iPAQ and this has a larger screen which makes it easier to read documents. Mine has quite a low resolution screen but the modern ones are much better.

I also have a digital camera on my phone - a Nokia N73 and I find it so useful when it comes to remembering things. I will take pictures of posters that have URLs and timetables. It has a 3.2 mega pixel camera which allows for good enough resolution for reading the text on many occasions.
