Robert
Summary of course
I started my PhD at the University of Southampton in October 2004. During my studies I was working on models of cochlear micromechanics. I successfully passed my viva in August 2007 and received the PhD in October the same year.
Description of strategies used
During my PhD the on-line learning was crucial for finding information related to my project. Time management, organisation of data, and communication were crucial for both scientific activities and personal development. Therefore I was almost forced to use some software packages to increase the efficiency (‘Organising Favorites’, ’Amazon keyword search’ and ‘Creating Icons’ strategies) and effectiveness (‘Remote assistance’, ‘Remote desktop connection’, ’Amazon keyword search’ strategies) of my work. The software or strategies I used also helped me to stay focussed on the scientific side of my work by reducing, e.g. the ‘secretarial tasks’ to a necessary minimum.
