Summary of course taken:
I am currently a second year Neuroscience and Psychology student. Last year, although it was the easiest of our 3 year course, was quite demanding as it involved lots of different components. Saying this, I did enjoy it very much and am looking forward to this second year.
Description of strategies used:
Last year I struggled with hearing the content in lectures as they are in a very large room with bad acoustics. To cope with this I contacted the DSO at my University and arranged to be sent the lecture notes before each lecture so that I did not have to concentrate so hard to listening, and instead could focus on making notes. Because I struggled with note-taking, I took to buying most of the textbooks and filling in my gaps of knowledge with these, which is very expensive and time consuming.
As the course uses a lot of data analysis, we are required to be able to use the programme SPSS, which consists of lots of statistics. The programme is so complicated to use, and with only verbal instructions to follow to use the programme, I have struggled immensely with it. I have coped with this by asking for help off course-mates and by searching for instructions on the internet.
I feel that I am a visual learner, and take lots of notes by making mind maps by hand. I would like to use the programme Inspiration to help in making these mind maps as it would be much more efficient in lectures and a fantastic tool for planning and organising work.
