hurdlerSummary of course taken

I'm doing a Sports Science BSc Hons. I’m in the third year, going down the route of doing a PGCE as well, depending on whether I get accepted onto a course. Or I might choose a different route which is going into schools and ‘learning on the job’ – a Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP).

Description of strategies used.

Reading is big issue for me - I find it hard to concentrate on the content so I have to scan in documents so I use a program to read them back to help me focus and absorb more information.

I tend to use the Assistive Technology Service as they have TextHelp Read and Write Gold. I have found that works best for PDF documents compared to some of the other programs. Andy also showed me some other fonts to make reading from the screen easier and now I choose something like Verdana rather than Times New Roman which seems to have clutter around the letters.

During my first year I did not plan at all and now I have used Inspiration and it has helped me see where I need to take my ideas. I just think it is easy to use and quite eye catching.

When you are listening to a recording, it is so much easier to repeat what has been said using Dragon, rather than listening, putting the recorder down and then typing.

Plain reports can be boring but a podcast where there is a debate can make a subject more enjoyable with different tones of voice emphasizing things - this helps me to identify a problem such as Roger Black talking about the lack of school sport and playing fields. When he was talking he was very passionate which helped me remember the issue.
