screen grab of Inspiation programOn PowerPoint I put a header page so it gives you who the case study was and what the condition was. Then on the next one I used the Inspiration - um brainstorming or whatever it is called these days. I used one of the pictures so you could identify with whom my person was and then I named him John Smith. So I just used the little icon on the side, put him in the middle, gave him a name, then used the mind mapping just to link up what his main condition was, which was COPD and then linked that to the additonal problems he had, which were Sleep Apnoea and Asthma. Then on the next page I put his description of how it felt to have COPD which was " when you fall asleep, it is as if someone has sat on your chest after you have exhaled and you can't breathe in and out properly. Some days just sitting in the chair feels like this. My wife doesn't know what to do and panics. I don't know what to do either."

The presentation below (flash file) has been shortened just to show the principle but you can make the slides automatically from the 'outline view' in Inspiration by going to file - export - PowerPoint slides - each slide will have the text in a list showing. If you want the map you need to export it in picture format and insert it into the slides - or just select each symbol or select all for the whole map - copy and paste if you are not worried about the size of the slide file.

Quote

"I would handwrite my notes out and try and lay it out on an A4 sheet so that it would be one PowerPoint slide, I would try to lay it out the way I wanted, it but with no spell checker and trying to find my way through PowerPoint it would probably take be between 6-8 hours, before having Inspiration ."

Tip

Plan Your Next Presentation with Mapping is a web page with some useful advice but not all the software on offer makes exporting to PowerPoint easy. It may be useful to look at MindManager and MindGenius. It is also possible to export some on-line mind mapping tools such as MindMeister as an outline or picture for use in presentations.
