It is easy to remove icons and they are only short cuts to programs - Highlight the icon you want to send to the Recycle bin - select delete or right hand mouse button and delete - you can always get them back from the Recyle bin if you have made a mistake or find the program in the Start menu!

If you have folders, files or programs you want to add to the Start Menu it is easy to drag them from their original home to the Start menu. Find the item you want - hold down the left hand mouse hand drag it to the Start, then as it opens you can place it where you want on the menu.

Do you want to temporarily hide all desktop icons, including My Computer and Recycle Bin? Right-click a clear area of the desktop, choose Arrange Icons By (in XP) or View (in Vista). Uncheck Show Desktop Icons.
