Strategy: Blackboard Quizzes for overlearning
5 Keywords: Blackboard, VLE, Virtual Learning Environment, Navigation, Download Files
"I am finding that is a lot of help. It’s more when the exams come around – I was using the computer more than the paper stuff."
But here are some things to remember:
- It is important to wait for the quiz to download and only click once or you may be locked out.
- Once you have loaded the quiz, use the controls on the Blackboard page not your back button on the browser (or the backspace
key, or Alt + left arrow key) and don't refresh the web page (F5) as you may lose your work on the quiz. - Always check that your mouse cursor is in a text box if you want to use the backspace key for correcting something - if the mouse cursor is elsewhere you may go back a page!
- Use the tab set-up on your browser if you want to go to other webpages otherwise you may lose your place in the quiz.
Quote
"Many lecturers are not using Blackboard fully - including Maths and Computing. Engineers have to use both sets of learning materials, but many of the resources are on separate websites – Blackboard has not been particularly robust in the past and lecturers abandon it if it does not work. The main use of Blackboard is to put up lecture notes and assignments for printing up. Sometimes it is used for interactive quizzes which are helpful for over- learning."

If you can't use the right-hand mouse button when working in a on-line edit form, try the keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste text. To copy text in the editing window, select it and use Ctrl+Insert or Ctrl+C (Command Key + C on Mac). To paste text, use Shift+Insert or Ctrl+V (Command Key+V on Mac).
