Strategy: Dictionary.com for word finding difficulties

6 Keywords: Dictionary, Complex Words, Synonym, Define Words, Thesaurus, Meanings

"I use dictionary.com and the associated thesaurus to check key words and likely intended meaning. It is a good strategy for any student to ‘define terms’ at the start of a project or essay. I have a tendency to know that a word has several meanings but I do not necessarily have an automatic sense of the most likely use. The synonyms and thesaurus mean that I can enter a similar word."

"When I am tired I can experience ‘word finding difficulty’ which basically involves knowing what I want to say/write but being unable to think of the word."- Georgia

Tip

Using Mozilla Firefox and want to find the meaning of a word or a synonym? Type the word into the address bar and add 'dictionary' or 'thesaurus'.  You will automatically be linked to the meaning of the word or other options for the word.  For example elephant dictionary  or trunk synonym. In Internet Explorer, Opera, Google Chrome, Safari  the same trick sends you to Google or you favourite search engine - usually with the first link leading to the dictionary or thesaurus.
